  1.                       THE INSTALLATION OF WIN32S.

  3. The WIN32S package for WINDOWS 3.11 is distributed by ftp.microsoft.com and
  4. others, e.g. included with the Borland C++ compiler.
  5. You have to unzip the file WIN32S.ZIP on the WIN32S diskette.
  6. You need the program "pkunzip.exe". You can find this program on several
  7. FTP-servers on INTERNET.
  8. If you don't have the PKZIP programs, the unzip programs can be found on the
  9. system disk. Put this disk in drive a: and copy pkunzip.exe to a temporary
  10. work directory.
  11. DO:

  13.     mkdir c:\temp
  14.     cd c:\temp
  15.     copy a:pkunzip.exe .
  16.  
  17. Thereafter put the WIN32S diskette in drive a: and unzip WIN32S 
  18.  
  19.         pkunzip a:WIN32S.ZIP
  20.  
  21. Now you will find two new directories: disk1 and disk2
  22.

  25. This program is Win32s version 1.1.5a.  It allows you to run 32-bit 
  26. Windows applications, which do not use Windows NT-specific features,
  27. under Windows 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups.  Mosaic v2.0 alpha4 is
  28. a 32-bit application and requires the win32s software.  If you already 
  29. use other 32-bit Windows applications then you already have this 
  30. software installed in your /windows/system/win32s directory.  Since
  31. Microsoft recently released this version we recommend you upgrade
  32. to this latest version of the Win32s software.

  34. Unzip the file w32s115a.zip onto two floppies or into an empty directory.  
  35. Use -d extension so the unzip utility will put the files in their proper
  36. directories.  For example:

  38.         pkunzip -d w32s115a
  39.  
  40. From the program manager select File, Run... and type in the path of the
  41. setup program.  For example:

  43.         c:\temp\disk1\setup
  44.  
  45. After Win32s has installed itself you will given an option to install a 
  46. 32-bit card game called Freecell.  Freecell is a really cool solitary game
  47. and running it is a good way to test your computer.

  49. Win32s was developed by Microsoft and it is freely distributed to licensed
  50. users of Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups.

  52. NOTE WIN32s is not supported by MicroSoft. Some Windows 3.11 configurations
  53. conflict with the NT or the 95 model.
